National Alpaca Farm Days...

We spent a wonderful afternoon at the True Colors Alpaca Farm learning about these beautiful creatures. Alpaca are curious, gentle, intelligent cousins to the camel and llamas. They came to this country just 25 years ago from the Andes mountains of Peru, Chile and Bolivia. The suri alpaca is a very rare breed known for their luxurious fiber. Their coat hangs down in long silky dreadlocks. The wool from these beautiful creatures is thinner, softer and warmer than sheep wool. It is such a treat to knit their fiber!

It was love at first sight when we arrived at the True Colors alpaca farm...

such elegant, gentle creatures...

who could resist those big, beautiful warm brown eyes...

so curious and intelligent...

those babies are so hard to resist...

and when we left, we even got a smile and a kiss!

The minute I arrived back home, I looked through my knitting bag and found a soft ball of suri alpaca yarn just waiting to be knitted into a comfy pair of socks!! Now you know what I will be doing for the next couple of weeks! When I finish, I can buy more direct from the True Colors suri alpaca at the farmers market in Woodstock. Can't wait!
