this is the New Year!

"this is a new year ... a new beginning"
~ a great big world~

This is a new year ... truly a new beginning.  Don't you all just love a beginning ... a new chance to get things right ... the first day of the rest of your life and all of that?

The whirlwind of the holidays has come to an end.  January is always a cold . snowy . long month here in Chicagoland ... think polar vortex.  But instead of dreading these long dark thirty one days, i have learned to welcome them.
It is my time to nest ... to slow down  ... to start new projects without any looming deadlines. My time for alittle planning ... and introspection.  It is my time to read that neglected stack of books and magazines on my nightstand...to open up a new journal.  It is even my time for alittle cleaning and organizing ... gasp!

So bring on the New Year ... i am so ready!

Today i am linking up with Kathy's fun Song~ography ... a "fun mash~up of photography and song" ... a visual song, if you will here and Kim Klassen's fabulous texture Tuesday here.
I just adore this letter I found at the flea market ... addressed to 'Merry Christmas and Happy New Year' dated 1907!

Until next time ...
Nancyjean

  2. Your still life is magnificent and such a wonderful find at the flea market. I have often remarked that I would not be content in a region without seasons, distinct seasons; however, the older I get the more I am open to the idea.

Beautiful contributions to both memes this week.

  4. Wow, I need to learn to embrace the new year and "cold" months like you do. It sounds so much better when you put such a positive spin on it.

  5. Awesome find in that letter! I am committed to not complaining about winter this year. It is what it is. I chose to live in Michigan for a reason, I love the changing seasons, since Winter is one of the four might as well embrace it.

  7. Such a beautiful diptych. Such calming tones. I need to embrace your idea of January. It's always a rough month for me because of the scarcity of sunlight and the cold. The new year does always seem to spur me to clean closets and this year I've done it rather than just talk about it. Now ... to think about that nesting ...
