oh...that summer wind

"i lost you...i lost you to the summer wind"
~frank sinatra~

Everyone is saying that the summer days are starting to wind down.  This week i saw the yellow school buses on  the roads once again.  But my children are grown, so i do not have that time mark anymore.  For me, summer is still going strong.  The days are warm and sun is shining brightly.  The only change is the nights... they seem to come alittle earlier now.
I have been as busy as a bee canning away in my kitchen.  It has kinda took over my life right about now.  And i love it!
I have fond memories of my two grandmothers canning in the summertime and enjoying all their bounty during the winter months.  It has always been something i have wanted to learn and this was the summer to finally do it!
So my photography has taken a back seat for a moment while i am busy harvesting.  Yesterday i canned a whole bushel of tomatoes. Now today are the bread and butter pickles and pickled beets...yum....
I did not have time to take a single photo this week.  So i just figured that there would be no linky party for me.  But as i stepped outside today, there was this beautiful butterfly resting on my hydrangeas. I ran inside to grab my camera and was able to take one photo before the summer wind blew and he flew away. I just knew at that moment i had the perfect photo for today's prompt...score!  He is alittle out of focus due to that breeze...but oh, i love the effect!
So I am able to link up with Kathy over at her delightful blog..."You will Shoot Your Eye Out".  Her Song~ography prompt today is "The Summer Wind" by old blue eyes.  I just love his music...so romantic!
If you have a moment click here to see all the amazing photos others have posted and if you feel inclined ... join in on the fun!

Until next time...

  1. I totally love the blurred nature of the background...so soft...it makes me envision a gentle breeze blowing. A perfect capture for "The Summer Wind". See? Some things are just meant to be! I also like your post today too...canning...brings back memories of a time gone by, and also that of family gone by too. Thanks for joining in at Song-ography!

  2. This is gorgeous! I have always wanted to can for the fall and winter. I wish I had enough home grown veggies to put up. I'm also a little afraid of canning...doing it wrong. But it would be fun to apprentice under and expert!

  3. Beautiful shot.... I don't have the patience for canning or should I say the weeding part of the garden. :)

  7. So beautiful! I have tried taking pics as I put up veggies and it ends up taking me twice as long to get it done. Mostly I freeze things these days.

  8. Your image is so dreamy which just goes to show that sometimes it is not all about 'focus'. I just commented on someone's blog about how I used to contemplate my seasons based on weather and calendar rather than 'school schedule' which brings about seasons nearly as premature as the mall/retail market.

  10. I love surprises and you certainly got a beautiful one...I am impressed with your all your canning..The women in my family have always canned as well but I am finding that I have turned to freezing as it's faster. Nothing like having fresh veggies in the winter time...Time well spent.....
