friday finds ... the 4.11 edition

"more than kisses, letters mingle souls"
~john donne~

I love Friday Finds with Kim Klassen ... "it is a place to gather and share ... a place to cherish life's simple pleasures" ... doesn't that sound like such an inviting place?

I went to my favorite store in town this week ... Sentimental Gardens.  Her shoppe is overflowing with antiques that she brings back from her seeminly never ending travels in Europe.  It is always such a treat to browse thru ...always finding that perfect something that just HAS to come home with me!

And sure enough i found that PERFECT SOMETHING ... old french letters dating back to the 1800's ... all tied up with a lovely silk ribbon.
I like to imagine they are lost letters written to one's true love... sigh ...
But one thing i do know ... they were written with a loving hand.  Each cursive letter flows so perfectly ... so beautifully ... and with such attention to detail.

Oh, how i wish that was the way we all would communicate again.  I just adore getting letters.  But unfortunately in this day and age ... i am afraid that it has almost become a lost art.

When a handwritten letter does find its way to my postbox i just beam from excitement ... i always sit down with a cuppa tea and let the words soak in.  Then i carefully safely tuck it away to save and treasure.

  6. I feel exactly the same way about handwritten letters and cards. Your photos convey your sentiment of treasured words shared among friends and family in a tangible way. Beautiful and thoughtful images.

  7. Oh, wow! What a find! They look so elegant and the handwriting ... well, it is elegant. Not only do we write letters, I can barely write legibly anymore because I do everything on the computer. It's a lost art in more ways than one.

  10. Well there are a few people who still send letters. I must admit I don't handwrite mine because my fingers/wrist just can't handle that anymore but I do type and send out letters from time to time. Your find is great, the handwriting is so pretty.

  15. Those letters are perfect. I agree that we need more real mail. The problem is that email is so handy. That shoppe sounds amazing, if I ever get over your way I must check it out.
