be brave...

" Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave..."
~sara bareilles~

I just sat down tonight to write Sunday's post for Kathy's Song~ography.  The song she choose this week is "Brave" by Sara Bareilles.  I've never heard this song...so I read her lyrics.

Oh my...did they strike a chord with me!

You see...several difficult things happened to me last year.  I just kept quiet and let others take advantage of me.  I have always been one to never rock the boat...always wanting to be a people pleaser...always avoiding confrontation at all costs.
But the costs were just to great on me.  I kept quiet... i was not brave enough to let my words flow out.  As a result, I have had quite a few tears flowing instead.

Just when I thought the year was about over and I could start anew...Christmas came... and once again I let others ruin my day simply because I did not speak up.

So as I put away my Christmas tree and start a new year i am hoping..maybe this is the year I have learned my lesson...maybe this is the year to have my voice heard.

So thank you, dear Kathy for choosing this song...it really spoke to my heart.

If you have a few moments, be sure to click here to join in on all the brave song~ography fun!

until next time...

  4. Here's to us who try to avoid conflict at too high a cost. That's me too, for sure. I'm reading the book Quiet -- excellent and encouraging, if you haven't read it yet. Wishing you a BRAVE 2014!

  5. Sounds familiar, and I think there are a great deal of us who keep silent to keep the peace...except we lose our own peace. My husband often reminds me that conflict isn't a bad thing, and that is the source of growth in personal relationships. I think there is a balance in knowing when to speak and when to be quiet. The one who always brings conflict or offense is no good either. I wish I understood the balance! I usual just sacrifice my own needs because it is easier, but the older I get the less right it feels.

  6. I think it's great that the song spoke to you in such a personal way. It's hard to know when to speak up for one's self and when to back down. I do hope that you will find that balance this year. - By the way I love your pretty Christmas ornaments.

  7. Sometimes it takes great strength to step back and endure - but it sound like it is your time to step up and speak up. Kim is right in there is a balance in knowing when to speak and when to be quiet, but when it is bringing you to tears - well, ... be brave friend - you owe it to yourself. Good 2014!

  8. I can relate in many ways. Hard to be a people pleaser but also be brave enough to make sure you're taken care of and heard. Here's to a new year full of smiles and bravery!

  10. I hope that these lyrics really are your wake up call and they will help you to speak out more often. By no means am I an extrovert. But I have learnt that 'you don't get anything in life if you don't either ask or do it yourself. Sounds really tougher than I am, or feel, but sometimes it helps to put on a tough outer ;) Here's to an awesome 2014! Hope to see you around...

  11. Oh I am so sorry that you have had to endure the results of staying silent...but I am also so happy that somehow this song has reverberated within you! I have the complete opposite problem. I have to learn to keep my mouth shut at times :). There must be a happy median between the two extremes..and maybe that's where the truly brave live. Thanks for sharing your journey, and participating in S ong-ography! (gorgeous photo too my friend!)

  12. I often stay silent. It's hard, and even harder on yourself. I've found that it stores anger within. Eventually that anger gets pretty big. For me-it started to come out sideways, this anger at things unrelated to the problems. Hope you can reach in and resolve some of what's inside. I'm guessing it will be freeing-but I totally know that fear.

  16. Sometimes it is the right thing to do to not speak out, but when it effects your health, your well-being, your self-worth, then it is time...courage for the new year!!
